These are just some of the nice things people have said about Battlegames. (Note the dates are in British format of dd/mm/yy.)
"I got my copy of the latest Battlegames in the post on Monday and I
feel the need to comment. I normally moan and whinge
about wargames mags, however in the interest of fairness and balance I
am going to give this one a big "thumbs up". It's bloody great.
Pretty much every
article or feature was relevant to me.
What I liked about this magazine:
Top stuff, and being bi-monthly the subscription costs are very
reasonable. Highly recommended."
Rich Clarke on the TooFatLardies Yahoo! Group, 09/07/08
"Battlegames is an excellent magazine for any
flavor of wargamer.
What I love about it is that it neither talks down to you or tries to sell
you something. It's simultaneoudly informative and friendly, kinda the
dead tree equivalent of the mates at the local club meeting, just without
the inevitable anoraks complaining about the 'obvious innacuracies' in
the latest Indiana Jones movie that prevented then from enjoying the film…"

"I've just finished reading the final instalment
on the Wars of the Faltenian Succession and couldn't help but
notice [that you're planning a special publication]. I'm hoping this
will be a 100+ page of said campaign, lavishly illustrated with lots
of different regiments etc. of Spencer Smith miniatures. You know, the
kind of publication that the reader can readily associate with. One that
brings back the innocence and joy of earlier years. Something
that, like your articles in Battlegames, really whets the appetite for
doing the same and of course at the same time satiates that appetite."
G Worsfold, via email, 02/06/08
"Having just renewed my subscription I wanted
to say just to say how much I have enjoyed
Battlegames over the last twelve issues. I look forward to supporting this
excellent for long
into the future. I really admire the effort that must have gone into producing
the mag, and as
someone who is self employed I understand that it I hope you reap the reward
you deserve
for such an undertaking.
Full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes!"
N Shaw, via email, 12/05/08
“Best magazine in the hobby, bar none”.

"Battlegames. Some non-historical is included. Great
pix, reports, everything you asked for. High-quality paper, writing,
and a reliable schedule."

"Issue 12 – excellent; have the whole
set and the mag just gets better and better. Despite not usually
having any "period-specific" articles
that match my particular likes, every article has something of generic
interest in terms of the hobby, rules ideas, painting/modelling skills,
scenarios that can be adapted to other periods."
Supercilius Maximus, TMP,

"I just thought I would drop you a line to congratulate you on an
excellent publication... A note on a message board led me to Battlegames,
which I was
delighted to discover was a far more interesting and engaging
publication. I particularly like the fact that the title and its
contributors have a 'voice', all too often wargames writing can be
dry and unimaginative... Congratulations again on doing such a great job
for the wargames
community."
V Bamford, via email 03/03/08
"May I say that, although I tend to buy several wargames magazines, yours
is the only one that I have on subscription and which I keep. Your
approach, and the standard of your articles, is most refreshing."
D Wright, via email 29/02/08
"I just wanted to congratulate you on the latest issue. Fantastic!!
I think that the AWI article is presented superbly
and in an original style that suits a battle report. The photographs are superb, just what
I needed after a recent visit to John Ray.
Once again , thanks for your hard work, very much appreciated."
J Sword via email, 27/02/08
"You have succeeded in a big way with the "content is king" approach — there's always something interesting & inspirational to read
in every issue."
SultanSevy, TMP, 18/02/08
"The fellow who influenced me the most into getting into gaming over
40+ years ago was Jack Scruby. As I have mentioned to you before Battlegames
is, in my opinion, today's equivalent of all of Jack's publications such
as Table Top Talk and so on. I mean this comparison
in the highest form of a compliment. Your publication is a great service
to the hobby."
J Mills on OSW, 22/01/08
"It's good to see the magazine appears to be going from strength to strength,
and I hope you are still getting much joy from your
one man miracle."
A

"I have just received issue 10 of your magazine, and I just wanted
to drop you a quick note, firstly to add (I am sure) to the praise that
you have already received with the Battlegames magazine. It
is great to finally a magazine which at least acknowledges both science
fiction and fantasy gaming, and doesnt try to split these genres off (either
in a positive of negative way). It is also great to find a publication
which deals with the actual games and rules. I enjoy reading scenarios
as much as anyone, but they will always be of limited value if I dont play
the game that it is provided for."
I Werry, via email, 09/01/08
"Received the back issues; I am without words — I know
from my own prior mis-deeds just how difficult it is to publish a quality
magazine and you have succeeded beyond what I had expected, even given
the outstanding appearance of Battlegames. Thank you very much and keep up the hard work!"

"Once more I feel compelled to write after reading issue 8 of your wonderful
magazine.
I read the Mollwitz article and finished up with almost
a tear in my eye. That was a fantastic article about a fantastic project.
I thought Sittangbad was very difficult to top but this takes the cake!
Michael Button's article was so convincingly written that the reader felt
he was there on the day.
It was without any shadow of a doubt also the most moving wargames article
I have ever read, it got me going back in my head to the days when I too
first read that great book and moved my Spencer Smiths over an old table
in grandads back bedroom. Believe me I know exactly how you all must have
felt on the day...and to use the original figures!!"
A Lloyd Pickrell via email, 24/07/07
My thanks to these people — and countless others — for
their extremely kind comments.
