I seem to
have lost a few pics showing the very next stage, which was to paint the
uniforms in a mid-coat of Codex Grey, which is an almost perfect neutral
mid-grey colour. This colour
was applied only to the areas that would later be painted white, and a
very thin gap was left between areas of the coat to represent shadow. this
takes some practice -- but with this many
figures in a unit, you'll get plenty of practice!
I then started applying white
to the cross-belts, with the broad cartridge box belt being done first,
as you can see. Again, I'm diluting all these colours before applying.
I use an artist's
watercolour palette to mix on, but even an old plate would do.
