WARGAMES TERRAIN

Following the publication of my siege rules in Battlegames issue 12, there have been a number of enquiries regarding manufacturers who make suitable walls for a Vauban-style siege, so here's what I've found:

Part of the Redoubt Enterprises range, Body's Bits is a nice range of battlefield accessories, civilian figures, animals and so on, including a nice selection of defences and barricades. The peeing dog is a favourite! All in 28mm.

Coyote Miniatures make the 6mm fortress walls previously made by Baccus, and very impressive they are too! They also make other useful bits and pieces, earthworks, trenches, forts, castles and so on. Well worth a look.

Frontline Wargaming: a range of resin-cast earthworks and gabions for 25/28mm and 15mm figures, some of which are pictured above.

Hovels do some 25mm gun emplacements and gabions for the ACW (though in fact these would be fine for most settings), and stockade/palisade log walls.

Ironclad Miniatures, best known for their Victorian sci-fi range, also manufacture a very useful selection of trench systems and other scenic items in 15mm, 20mm and 25mm sizes.

Irregular Miniatures produce redoubts and fortifications for 2mm figures, including 18th century stone and wooden forts, redoubts and so on. For 6mm they also make gabions, ladders (!), wooden stakes, chevaux de frise, palisades and wooden walls with walkways, and a Vauban star fort, as well as destroyed sections.

Langton Miniatures produce some of the 15mm earthworks that used to be sold by Starfort Models. These are in resin, and are ideal for use by the besieging forces.

Little Green Man Models apparently also stock the Starfort range though they do not appear to have a website at present, Contact details are 90, Cuthbury Gardens, Wimborne, Dorset BH21 1YB, UK.

Terrain Warehouse have an interesting 15mm range, including trench sections, palisade-type fortifications, and, most spectacularly, a hexagonal, six-bastion Vauban-style fortification, supplied painted, flocked, varnished and ready to play! With the glacis, it is just over 1m wide and is surely the Rolls-Royce option for gamers keen to do this kind of thing properly.

A company making useful European-style terrain pieces in several scales (as well as armoured vehicles for WW2 gamers) is SPC Wargame Creations.
